Games May Make Project Tango Tablet a Real Product, More Appealing to Hardware Makers

Google’s Project Tango made the news a lot in its prime, thanks to its nifty features, like using 3D sensing cameras to map their surroundings and improve interaction. The project seemed to be flopping for a while, but today it appears that the gaming world may just bring it back.

Google project lead Jonny Lee said that the Tango didn’t generate much interest from device makers. At the Nvidia 2015 GPU Technology Conference in Santa Clara the current Project Tango developer kit was a device with a Tegra K1 processor inside. Lee showcased some use cases of the prototype, like mapping out rooms or even city blocks, while using a mere tablet.

He also showed the audience some hardcore gaming, using the system and for example an Unity game environment was created on the fly by the same Johnny Lee. All he had to do was wave the Tango tablet around the room, survey the area and voila. In the future Tango could be used to build Minecraft-style fortresses in your house and interact with them.

An LG device is apparently in the making, taking advantage of this technology.

ASUS FonePad 7 2015 (K01N) Leaks its Specs via GeekBench

Yesterday we detailed the ASUS FonePad 7 2015, courtesy of a TENAA certification leak and today we get to see its benchmark, via a GeekBench leak. On this occasion we also get a confirmation of the device’s specs.

I have to say the benchmark scores are quite modest, so we’re dealing with a lower end unit here. Codenamed ASUS K01N, the new FonePad 7 brings forth Android 4.4.2, running on top of an Intel Atom Z2520 1.2 GHz processor, with two cores. It also has 1 GB of RAM and that’s about all the info we get from the benchmark. ASUS FonePad 7 was also detailed in the TENAA leak, in a more ample way. There was even speculation about a $235 price tag and availability in red, gold or white. The new slate will most likely offer phone calling features and it should include a 7 inch IPS display with a modest resolution. Apparently, the back camera has been bumped to 8 MP from the predecessor and we’re going to get GPS on board. Interestingly the leak from yesterday mentioned 2 GB of RAM, not 1, like the benchmark…

Facebook Messenger is quickly becoming one of the most important apps in our smartphones. In fact, I can say it has nearly replaces my other messaging apps. Facebook is trying to make it an all-around service that we could use for much more than messaging and sending each other cute emoticons, though.

Today Facebook has announced that we can now send each other money via Facebook Messenger, a feature we didn’t quite expect from such a service. The best part is that it’s free! You can simply tap the “$” button and send away. It’s actually super easy.

Opinion: I have to say this is pretty cool… though I don’t know how I would feel about handing Facebook my credit card info.

We recently reported on a very good Sony Xperia Z4 image leak, but that press render only displayed about half of the phone. Today @OnLeaks is treating us to a very awesome set of images, which show the full front, back, sides, top and bottom of the device.

Surprise, surprise – it looks just like a Sony Xperia Z3! The leakster also said the device should measure in at 146.3 x 71.9 x 7.2 mm. Rumored specs say it should have a Snapdragon 810 processor, 4G LTE, a 21 MP camera and a 5.2-inch screen, which will have either a 1080p or QHD resolution.

Opinion: We are huge fans of Sony flagship smartphones here at Mobile Geeks, so we can’t wait to see more from Sony about this device. It’s also worth mentioning that them keeping a similar design makes sense, as it’s really what they have been doing with all Z series smartphones.
